ALP MOROCCO Presents: "DE LA CRÉATIVITÉ À L'ÉCOLE". A Documentary by Layla Triqui

Active Listening Playground Morocco presents: "DE LA CRÉATIVITÉ À L'ÉCOLE". A Documentary by Layla Triqui ALP Morocco Project composed, directed and conducted by Keren Rosenbaum Performed in Kenitra, 2012

A collaboration of COMPOSING COMMUNITY and The GOETHE INSTITUTE gave birth to the outstanding project, ALP MOROCCO. (The Active Listening Playground - Morocco) Like many stories this one also begins with an extraordinary friendship. In 2012 the culture manager and musician Isabel Eddouks (initiator and founder of ALP Morocco) was part of a think tank by the Goethe Institute, that dealt with the themes of culture, education and development in Morocco. She contacted the most creative person, she ever met, the NY based composer/artist Keren Rosenbaum, to develop a project, that inspires creativity in schools for pupils as well as for teachers. Isabel wished to bring the Active Listening Playground believing this would make participants "stop talking about creativity and start creating”.

The Active Listening Playground (ALP) is an innovative art form created and developed by Keren Rosenbaum over a decade. It has been successfully performed worldwide in Africa, Europe and the US. Each composition that begins with composing any group of individuals into a community and by creating a specific score, based on musical elements the composed community becomes the body performing the composition.

As result of the think tanks research, it became clear, that the process of creativity, working in teams and empathetic communication is missing in schools. The concept of the Active Listening Playground by Keren Rosenbaum implements all this aspects. This is why the moroccan filmmaker and participant of the think tank, Layla Triqui, decided together with Isabel Eddouks to realize this pilot project in a public school in Kenitra. It was also the goal to film the event, to show the creation of the ALP to a larger public. Keren Rosenbaum conducted the research for the preparations and setup the planning for the event with the Composing Community team. The german museum education officers Lena Seik and Tristan Schulze joined the team.

It is one of the remarkable characteristics of the Active Listening Playground, that participants find the safe environment and atmosphere, to become aware of the creative process and can freely express themselves . The special feature is, that different groups/communities come together to create. This is why teachers, pupils and the Composing Community team were all involved as performers.

An ALP is a music based composition involving other artistic forms using a scoring method Rosenbaum refers to as "The Reflex Invisible Score". This music, named Reflexive Music was developed by Rosenbaum and the REFLEX Ensemble since 1999. The score is composed with special focus on the participants and their individual contribution. Each participant transforms in this musical instrument, a voice and a human expressions. During an ALP training process participants are invited to discover what is their own voice and expression it is during the ALP Final Event that being a performative experience they are all joined together in an orchestra like moment. Each voice is unique, each participant is important. All together they create a final composition in a in the case of ALP Morocco was named STOP-LISTEN-GO.
